“She rises to the occasion, unabashed, captivating, bold and righteous. She will follow her dreams and she will shine.” - Baran by Tanya Marie Reeves
Name
Baran is a unisex name with its origin in Latin America, meaning: form of star Aldebaran. *Aldebaran being the brightest star within the Taurus constellation.
Totem
In a nutshell, the Star symbolises aspiration, inspiration, imagination, wonder, dreams, pursuits, magic, creative brilliance, and divine guidance. The symbolic definition of the star is quite difficult to narrow down being that the specific meanings are vast and wide relating to the shape and number of points, as well as alternate cultures, religions and periods of time throughout history.
Inspiration and Work in Progress
Two firsts! Baran is the first artwork I have created in my new studio (and temporary house away from home) only two weeks in to the move. She is also the first of my ladies for 2021 which does not include fabric or mixed media collage.
At only 91x76cm Baran is another smaller piece for my collection. I literally set a boundary for myself to use the canvases I have in stock (although smaller than I prefer) before I order more. The size of the canvas was actually the starting point of my inspiration… I really like to keep smaller works simple and striking, not overindulged with mixed media and texture. I wanted to really make a statement and bring some of that explosive colour back which was once a prominent signature of my style.
I had actually envisioned Baran with deeper, richer tones when I had first drawn her up… but she wasn’t having it! She has a mind of her own. She is a rockstar.
